March
14, 2003, marks a milestone in the history of wildlife conservation in America -
the Centennial Anniversary of the National Wildlife Refuge System. In 1903
President Theodore Roosevelt set aside a tiny island off the east coast of
Florida for the protection of pelicans and other species from hunters.
Wild Birds Unlimited
through the Pathways To Nature
grant program contributed to educational signs
displayed on a boardwalk at Pelican Island.
